VMS:
When did you start writing and performing your music.
What’s your backstory and current lineup.
Deathtape:
Late 2023 we wrote our first song “Vanity” and performed it live for the first time February 10th of 2025. We became a group in our junior year but we were friends for longer and we have just been doing what we love to do since then. Abenamar Honrubia is on the mic with Ryan Joyce on drums and Jacob Rubino on Bass. The youngest dude is Jimmie on guitar who’s 16 even though he looks 37.

VMS:
What artist or bands inspire you and your sound.
Deathtape:
We are heavily inspired by the old Nu Metal scene back in the late 90’s with names like Slipknot and Deftones being big parts in our sound. Traveling around we got to hear and experience so many different scenes and genres like hardcore, punk, deathcore and slam in which all of them are so sick. The people and community have been the best part about all of it, so many cool dudes out there.

VMS:
What’s your writing process and inspiration for your lyrics.
Deathtape:
My inspiration is wanting to put my story and thoughts into the world for people to hear and understand, I usually use my own beliefs and experiences for songs.
VMS:
I love your songs
“(sic)” (Slipknot Cover), “Futile”, “Wrists” and “Binary Love”.
What is the inspiration or story behind these songs.
Deathtape:
We love the original Slipknot self titled album so you know we had to cover “(sic)”, “Futile” was written with the idea of insignificance and “Wrists” about mental problems I had, “Binary Love” is about past mistakes. Take what I say how you feel there is no wrong way to think.

Tell me about your EP: “Adolescence”.
What was the inspiration and process of writing it.
Deathtape:
“Adolescence” came to life with countless jams and messing around, being together is always a blessing. Graduation and going through our last years of high school is what it sounds like to me.

VMS:
Which local artist would you like to work with and why.
Deathtape:
Our homies in Open Letter just formed and they have this super sick sound that we love, getting on a few tracks would be dope.

VMS:
What’s your overall theme or message of your music.
Deathtape:
Don’t take your younger years for granted live to the fullest and be happy.

VMS:
Do you have a favorite song that you like to perform.
Deathtape:
Our usual opener “Scenery” off our EP gets us super hype and is one of our personal favorites we made.

VMS:
Do you have any crazy or interesting stories from working in the music scene.
Deathtape:
Our guitarist was in rotation with our homies “Killspree” from Cali and he got super fried and it was hilarious, he thought the van was a plane and was freaking out. One of the funniest nights we had on the road.

VMS:
Tell me about your most recent experience of playing at Punk Rock Bowling!
The show looked amazing!
Deathtape:
It was surreal playing on a stage that big, only thing is, it was hot as hell. We had a green room in the back with all the other bands and we got to talk to a lot of them including Fat Mike which was super cool.

VMS:
What do you want your audience to feel and experience at one of your live shows.
Deathtape:
A sense of freedom and just good vibes is always the goal since that’s how I feel at shows I’ve been too, an escape from the real world in a way.

VMS:
What have been your personal pros and cons of being a band here in Las Vegas. What do you think the scene could improve on and what are your hopes for the future of the Vegas Music Scene.
Deathtape:
In the Arts District they were trying to pass a bill for no noise past 10 pm or something like that but the community and scene came together and overturned it. The people here are great, wouldn’t change a thing.
VMS:
What does the future hold for Deathtape.
Deathtape:
We got an EP in the works coming out in October or November and we are really excited to drop it. 2026 we wanna tour around the US after the EP drop so you’ll see us in your city pretty soon.

VMS Thoughts:
I remember when I heard Deathtape for the first time, I was truly blown away by their songs and musicianship! Their music sounds so advanced beyond their years and musically they are so incredibly solid, that I thought I was listening to seasoned musicians. I love the passion they have for what they do, what you see is definitely what you get with them, their music goes hard and is unrelenting.
They are not afraid to talk about all the difficult topics like lost love, mental health struggles and the hard life lessons we all go through, I appreciate their raw honesty and energy, they definitely have tapped into something unique and truly them. Their music takes you on an amazing roller coaster of emotion that beautifully translates into their sick live shows as well! I greatly encourage you to go see them live if you get the chance, they are just as good (if not better) than their recordings, which is always a wonderful bonus.
I think their EP “Adolescence” is a balls to the walls musical adventure that is a wonderful snapshot into teen angst, growing up, and all the internal struggles we all go through during that stage in life. God I remember how awful high school was, and I feel their EP has perfectly captured that moment in time, definitely a must listen.
I am excited to hear the next evolution of Deathtape, they have already come out the gate in full fucking swing, that I know the next chapter is definitely one that cannot be missed. And I for one, am so fucking excited for the next ride, and I greatly encourage you guys to buckle up mother fuckers, I just know they are gonna blow you out of the fucking water! š
