VMS:
When did you start writing and performing your music. What’s your backstory and current lineup.
lessthannothing:
Levi and I [Mason] started jamming in his garage on the 4th of July, after he had been begging for me to jam with him for months. We met through the Jazz band program at Cheyenne High School, he played drums and I played rhythm guitar. It was just Levi and I making instrumentals until we added Ethan for vocals, a childhood friend of mine.

VMS:
What artist or bands inspire you and your sound.
lessthannothing:
Mason – I draw a lot of inspiration from I Have Dreams, I Hate Myself, beforeyouleave, and The Smiths.
Ethan – I got a lot of my screams from Chino on the earlier Deftones records.
Levi – Dino Sommese, Zach Hill, Joey Jordison
Tyler- Mitski is my biggest influence.
Jared- Tame Impala is my biggest influence.

VMS:
What’s your writing process and inspiration for your lyrics.
lessthannothing:
Mason – I write most of the lyrics, I usually just put random thoughts and phrases in my notes app and combine them until I get something that resembles a song. Almost all my lyrics come from things I’ve went through with people and relationships.

VMS:
I love your songs “Scatter”, “Worthless Human Opinion Regarding Everything”, “Bye, I Love You” and “It’s Almost December, Another Year Has Passed”. What is the inspiration or story behind these songs.
lessthannothing:
So for “Scatter”, we worked on that one for a while until we got it to the version that ended up on the album. I had trouble writing lyrics to it until they kinda wrote themselves one night and that was it. Outta Pocket inspired the breakdown for that one, and the clean/screaming layered vocals idea I got from beforeyouleave.
We made “Worthless Human Opinion” in about ten minutes, I just started playing the intro riff while we were trying to record the drum track for “Scatter”, and the jam ended up on the album. The Ted Williams demo EP inspired that one big time.
For “Bye, I Love You,” we made that instrumental months ago and I didn’t write lyrics for it until right before recording. That one is about my girlfriend, we were going through a rough patch at the time.

VMS:
Tell me about your Album: “It’s Almost December, Another Year Has Passed”. What was the inspiration and process of writing it.
lessthannothing:
We started off trying to do an EP, but we ended up having enough songs for an album. Our goal was to merge our love for hardcore breakdowns with the softer side of emo.

VMS:
Which local artist would you like to work with and why.
lessthannothing:
A local artist we’d like to work with is Sometime Tomorrow, we really like what they’re putting out.
VMS:
What’s your overall theme or message of your music.
lessthannothing:
If we had to choose an overall theme for our music I think it would be missing what you once had.

VMS:
Do you have a favorite song that you like to perform.
lessthannothing:
“Worthless Human Opinion” BY FAR.

VMS:
Do you have any crazy or interesting stories from working in the music scene.
lessthannothing:
We haven’t worked in the music scene long enough but we had the cops called on us almost every practice for being too loud.

VMS:
What does the future hold for lessthannothing.
lessthannothing:
As for the future of lessthannothing, we want to play as many shows as possible.

VMS:
What have been your personal pros and cons of being a band here in Las Vegas.
What do you think the scene could improve on and what are your hopes for the future of the Vegas Music Scene.
lessthannothing:
Pros of the Vegas music scene would be its inclusiveness and support of local bands. As for cons, I’d say some of the music can sound very derivative. I hope the Vegas scene can separate itself from other scenes.

VMS:
What do you want your audience to feel and experience at one of your live shows.
lessthannothing:
Emo.
