“Story of Your Life” by Marion Peru and Elan Markos

Las Vegas-based songstress Marion Peru’s latest song with guitarist Elan Markos reminds us that it’s never too late to rewrite your story.
Marion and Elan’s latest collaboration, “Story of Your Life,” encourages seeking hope when all seems lost and unpromising.
Despite the uplifting melody, the song’s lyrics open with a somber sentiment that takes an optimistic turn: “The darkness of the world makes the child inside die slowly, but our hearts are never too old to keep loving, keep hoping, and keep growing.”
Marion’s delicate vocals blend seamlessly with Elan’s pure strings, a heavenly musical match. The singer’s runs are smooth and reminiscent of 90s R&B icons Monica and Aaliyah. Elan’s clean and angelic chords shine consistently throughout. Neither artist overpowers the other. A dream team at its finest.
This is a modern anthem equivalent to the motivational courage and charm of older hits, such as “You Gotta Be” by Des’ree and “Try Again” by Aaliyah. Although the melody of “Story of Your Life” is not as energetic as those iconic numbers, it still embraces the same heartfelt, emboldening spirit through a more introspective lens, that of a writer.
Whether you’re having a bad day or feeling defeated, this track empowers the underdog, the everyday person striving to make a life-changing breakthrough.
What makes this seemingly simplistic song so genius is how effortlessly both artists have rendered it. Listen carefully; you’ll hear tender piano keys. Pay attention to the harmonious background vocals accentuating Marion’s soft yet powerful voice. Not to mention how it beautifully executes a lulling pace with assured key changes. The magic is in the details of this song.
When you are at a crossroads, feeling like a walking rain cloud on a bright summer day, play “Story of Your Life.” Remember, “Don’t give up on yourself/ what’s on the other side of hope is lovely.”
