Hello Rockstars! I had so much fun at the Papsmear show at Backstage Bar and Billiards, that I wanted to do a quick recap of all the bands that played! Overall, the whole night was fucking amazing! All of the bands that Mr.Paul French of Papsmear handpicked were absolutely fucking amazing! I hope to see more shows in the future were he picks the lineup, he did such a wonderful job. In this article I talk about bands The Brown Sound, Skeleton Crew, The Fat Dukes of Fuck, Trip to the Morgue, Terror Attack and Papsmear! Enjoy! 🙂
1. The Brown Sound: I already knew that TBS was going to bring the fucking intensity, I have had the pleasure of knowing their music and band for awhile, and I even made them an Artist of the Week, but holy shit, I wasn’t ready for the amazing roller coaster they took us on. They started off strong with an intense mid tempo, and incredibly ominous song that had no vocals, which was a perfect introduction to them and also a smart way to get the audience to buckle up and get ready for the ride. After that, they went fast, furious and intense into every song.
You can tell they genuinely love what they do, since the passion and intensity was pouring through them and I could definitely feel that energy. Every note, every scream, every instrument was played with such an amazing intensity, I was legitimately sad when their set was over. The standout for me was “I Can’t breathe“, such an incredibly solid song that made it hard to not want to move around while I was live streaming (lol). They also debuted a brand new song, which was an exciting peek into the next evolution of their sound. I can’t wait to see where the future takes The Brown Sound, I know that if their new song is any indication, it’s gonna be a sick fucking ride!

I finally met Hector from TBS and he was absolutely the nicest and coolest guy! 🙂

2. Skeleton Crew: I have heard about how good Skeleton Crew is, but I wasn’t able to go see them in person until the BBB show and I’m so glad they were there! They brought an amazing magnetism, with their growling vocals, commanding drums, and an incredibly intense guitar playing that was absolutely amazing to watch. I know at the start they had a little bit of some technical issues, but like true professionals, they didn’t let any setbacks get in the way of doing an absolutely killer set.
I also appreciate their banter with the audience, it’s awesome that even though they play intense music, they are very tongue and cheek about themselves, which is refreshing. You can tell they love what they do, and seem to make it their mission to make the audience rock their fucking faces off, let loose and have some fun. From start to finish Skeleton Crew put on an intense roller coaster of a show and I can’t wait to see them live next time, it was truly an unforgettable set.

3. The Fat Dukes of Fuck: To say that The Fat Dukes of Fuck brought an amazing intensity to their set is an understatement. They started out of the gate swinging and didn’t fucking stop the whole time. They have a cool combo of metal mixed with a 70’s punk / metal vibe to me, and not only was I impressed by their musicianship, I was impressed by the intense presence their lead singer, which he truly was in command of that stage, which is incredibly hard to do.
they effortlessly went from mid tempo, to fast and intense, to a groove vibe all without missing a beat. I was legitimately impressed that they are not afraid to play around with their sound, and do a wonderful combo of many genres of rock / metal / punk and everything in between. The musical diversity was incredibly impressive and now makes me want to deep dive into them more as a band. You can tell that not only they absolutely love what they do but they have the passion, drive and the musical knowledge to go as far as they want too. Their whole set was an amazing and incredibly intense ride, and an absolutely musical journey that I cannot wait to see where they decide to go next as a band.

4. Trip to the Morgue: It was my first time seeing TTTM, and they did not disappoint! They started off strong, with a fast intensity that quickly shifted to a mid tempo, and went back and forth in the same song. I love when Bands play around with their music like that, it’s nice to keep it unique, let it build, give the audience a chance to breathe and then dive back into a fast intensity. I feel it gives their music more impact and makes it memorable. I was also impressed that they had some new members and honestly you would never have known, that’s how in sync they were, it’s incredibly impressive and shows what strong musicians they are.
I am obsessed with the metal / punk vibes I was getting from them the whole time. Yes I understand Metal can be fast of course, but it just felt Punk at times, which is my personal interpretation, and I know both worlds are incredibly similar in styles, but I love that they were not afraid to play with their sound and intensity musically, it was amazing to watch. From start to finish they put on one hell of show, with their standout track for me was about cannibals called “Tribal Lust” and was an incredibly fun song that was all over the place (in the best way possible). I am legitimately excited to see where the future holds for Trip to the Morgue, I think they are intense, fun, and make me definitely long for more when their set was done. I truly cannot wait to see the evolution of this incredibly sick band.

5. Terror Attack: I knew Terror Attack was going to be sick, I have known about them for a long time, but holy shit did they bring the fucking fire! They started out with a voice over that was an incredibly important message about the dangers of racism, and went straight into an incredibly fast pace and intense song called “In the Ghetto” and then just kept tearing shit up after that. I appreciate that they are not afraid to talk about what they are passionate about, that to me is the power that music has. we should be able to talk about the social injustices in this world, and they did it so effortlessly through their music. I was incredibly impressed by how solid as musicians each band member is, they all bring something intense and important, with their standout song being “Socially Incompetent” and I know that Bubba Bass is relatively new to the band, but he fits in so seamlessly, that you would have thought he had been playing with them for a long time.
I was lucky enough to meet them for the first time before the show and I was impressed not only how incredibly nice and down to earth they are, but it was cool seeing that juxtaposition on stage. They bring an intensity to their songs that is unmatched, and you could tell the audience was definitely resonating with it cause there were multiple times I had to keep the camera steady cause people were moshing so fucking hard lol. I feel they have crafted their songs perfectly, many of them are the classic punk vibe of short, sweet and to the point sometimes, but it doesn’t take away from the impact of what they are talking about or their music of course, they have just found the sweet spot, which is smart, cause it just makes me long to hear more of their fucking amazing music. I cannot wait to hear the evolution of their sound, I know Terror Attack is in the studio right now, and I can only imagine it’s going to be another amazing musical journey.

6. Papsmear: Las Vegas legends Papsmear brought the fucking intensity to their headlining show and I was absolutely blown away watching these masters in action. What I have always loved about them and also why I made them an Artist of the Week is how they are not afraid to play with different genres, all while metal is still their core. They truly play around with their sound and take you on an amazingly intense adventure, doing it so fucking seamless in the process. You can tell they have been rocking this scene since 1985, since their skills and musicianship are unmatched and the new generation should definitely be taking note.
They have a wonderful passion for what they do, with all of them bringing an amazing intense chemistry and also are incredibly nice and down to earth guys in general, which is amazing to see as well. It was also impressive to see Paul French playing bass while singing, but he did it so effortlessly. I am so happy they played my favorite song “Vivisection” which is a fast, intense, tour de force of a song, it always puts me in a wonderful mood and it was so amazing to hear it live for the first time, may I dare say it actually sounds even more amazing live, which is just a great testament of Papsmear as a band; they are fast, furious, tight and just fucking bring the fire! I wish I had a better way of explaining how wonderful their live show was, but my words are failing, I feel they are just one of the bands you genuinely need to see live to get the full experience of.
Their musicianship knows no limits, and I know they have just reformed in 2017, but I am so glad they did.I personally can’t wait for new music from them. Hearing their songs from back in the day and seeing them live now, you can definitely hear the maturity of their sound and I hope they take that and make some truly magnetic music for this new generation.I feel we need bands like Papsmear now more than ever, and I hope I can continue see them rock this fucking shit out for as long as they want too. I know for one, I am staying a long time for the ride.
