March 13th AOTW: Assinine

Today I would like to tell you about my artist of the Week:

Punk Metal Band Assinine!!

Here’s their story in their own words! Enjoy!

VMS: “When did you start writing and performing your music. What’s your backstory and current lineup.”

Assinine:

Robby Chaos (Guitar) – “We changed the name of the band after our first gig, so the second time we played Dive Bar back in December of 2022 we debuted as Assinine. It was cool when we changed the name because I think we all felt it represented us much better as far as a group.”

Velvet Taint (Vocals) – “I was looking for some dudes that like to let it rip. I put an ad on Craigslist and the rest is history.”

Harry Sac (Bass) – “I was looking for a chick that wanted to hear me let it rip… the rest is… you know..”

Alex (Drums) – “I was in solitary confinement and needed a way out.”

VMS: “What artist or bands inspire you and your sound.”

Assinine:

Robby – “Green Day is who got me going on guitar. If you want to learn guitar, pick up a Green Day record and learn your power chords, that was 12-year-old me. Then I learned about Randy Rhoads and started listening to Between The Buried and Me.”

Velvet – “I especially was driven by the raw vocals and heavy guitars of the grunge and NuMetal era. Korn, System of a Down, Soundgarden, and WWF The Music vol. III soundtrack were some of my biggest musical influences.”

Harry – “I like the grimy-ness of an unwashed sack – mixed with the heaviness of a completely full stomach, that hasn’t emptied in approximately three days. I also just got a new Mesa Boogie, so we’re doing great.”

Alex – “Foul Deformity.”

VMS: “What’s your writing process and inspiration for your lyrics.”

Assinine:

Robby – “The process for us is always different. We all have a say though, which is cool! Take “Molotov” for instance- Harry came in with the main riffs, I added the bridge, and we all hashed out the outro together. Actually, that was the first song we wrote together as a band.”

Velvet – “The inspiration for the lyrics always kind of depends. Once Robby or Harry bring in a riff and Alex starts slamming it down, the rest kind of writes itself, The song takes on it’s own personality both lyrically and musically. It’s one of coolest things I’ve ever gotten to be a part of.”

Harry – “I usually drop out some fat bass lines while I’m on my porcelain throne of inspiration. I’ll stay in the bathroom until I hash out the bass line and I’m ready to show the band.”

Alex – “A little of this, a little of that.”

VMS: “I love your songs “Molotov Cocktail”, “Relentless” and “Necktie Bonfire”. What is the story behind these songs.”

Assinine:

Velvet – “Thank you! Each of our songs all kind of have their own concept and personalities…Usually when I write lyrics, I write them as a concept or theme. Our song “Relentless” is about never stopping chasing your dreams.

“Molotov cocktail” is about the corrupt elite that rigged the game of life, and my anger behind it.

“Necktie Bonfire” is about the facade of the ‘American Dream’ and how the corrupt sell the illusion of it – to bleed you dry and take everything from you.

The rich get richer… and the corrupt get corrupter.”

VMS: “Tell me about your EP “Assinine.” What was the inspiration behind this album.”

Assinine:

Robby – “I think we are all proud of the EP and very glad we had the opportunity to record the songs. I’ve been in bands before where we worked so hard on our material but for whatever reason we never got to the point of actually laying the tracks down. So being able to go to Electric Shop Recording here in Vegas was such a blessing and I think we all enjoyed the ride!”

Velvet – “We didn’t really set out with a specific amount of songs or ideas to go and record. We pretty much wrote until we became constipated, practiced the songs until we became incontinent.. then, feeling lighter and better than ever, we went and recorded the album.”

Harry – “Our EP is a collection of six songs. We were all too lazy to think of a name for the album, so we just called it ASSININE.”

Alex – “They said, ‘ Hey, we’re recording on this day.’ And I was like – cool, I’ll be there.”

Harry – “I hear Corey Taylor lives out here. Wouldn’t mind linking up with him.”

Alex – “Elvis – because he may be dead but he’s not forgotten.”

VMS: “What’s your overall theme or message of your music.”

Assinine:

Robby – “Smooth seas never made a skilled sailor!”

Velvet – “Love conquers all.”

Harry – “Live. Laugh. Love. Poop.”

Alex – “Don’t eat the yellow snow.”

VMS: “What do you want your audience to feel and experience at one of your live shows.”

Assinine:

Robby – “Jubilation, mystique, and a rollercoaster of emotions!”

Velvet – “Comfortably numb.”

Harry – “Unstoppable growth in weird places.”

Alex – “A tingling in their ding-a-ling.”

VMS: “Do you have any crazy or interesting stories from working in the music scene.”

Assinine:

Robby – “Meeting Steel Panther- Stix was so nice, and it was amazing talking music with Michael!”

Harry – “Yes.”

VMS: “What does the future hold for Assinine.”

Assinine:

Robby – “Hopefully finding that confounded bridge.”

Velvet – “World domination.”

Harry – “Tons of asinineness’s.”

Alex – “A little this, a little that.”

What I love about Assinine is their no bullshit balls to the walls attitude and music. With their high energy live performances and sound of crunchy guitar, demanding drums, and growling vocals and lyrics that all command you to stand the fuck up and act now, they are truly a force to be reckoned with! Not only are they wonderful musicians, but they talk about the important issues in their lyrics like social and political blindness and how we need to see this world for what it really is, the importance of questioning everything. They see the corruption of this world and they call it out, breaking the illusion in the process.

I appreciate their honesty, and being able to stay true to who they are. The downside of this industry and this world is how they try to get us to conform to what they think, individuality is definitely scarce, especially in the age of social media. Unfortunately, this world wants us to be sheep and it makes me so happy that Assinine just sees it for the hypocrisy that it is.

I’m incredibly excited to see what the future holds for them, they have such an amazing drive in their music and lyrics, you can tell they legitimately mean what they say and they feel it deep. I hope they never lose that spark that they have in their songs, live performances, and everything else they set their minds too. They are raw, real, and full of passion, and I know that will definitely get them far. And that’s why I chose them as my Artist of the Week.
