AOTW: The Sins

Hello Rockstars! Today’s Artist of the Week is American Blues / Rock Band The Sins!
Here’s their story in their own words, enjoy!

Also, The Sins have an amazing show (with a fucking sick lineup) coming up on June 12th at The Swan Dive, so don’t forget to save the date and get your tickets now! 🙂

VMS:

“When did you start writing and performing your music? What’s your backstory and current lineup?”

The Sins:

Current Lineup:

Danny Gootee: Guitar / Vocals.
Misha Sol: Bass / Vocals
Max Mahoney: Drums / Vocals
Micah Smith: Keys / Organ

“Individually, we’ve all been performing music for a long time prior to meeting each other or even starting the band. Danny and I officially started it with him on guitar and myself on bass in August of 2023. We were really lucky to meet Max, our drummer, around that time. Micah, our pianist, is our most recent addition to the group, and since then we’ve really been able to hone in on our sound and style.”

VMS:

“What artists or bands inspire you and your sound?”

The Sins:

“That’s a tough one to narrow down, but I will say that 60’s & 70’s counterculture really inspires us on an aesthetic level. Stylistically, we take a lot of inspiration from The Doors, The Grateful Dead, The Beatles, Miles Davis, Howlin’ Wolf etc… The list could go on! All of us bring our own influences and favorite artists that lead to this really cool amalgamation of sound. We all just want to tap into that era’s spirit and ultimately make something new from it.”

VMS:

“What’s your writing process and inspiration for your lyrics?”

The Sins:

“I think we’ve found our rhythm by letting the music write itself, to a certain extent. A lot of the times one of us will just be riffing something and we all just collectively add to it. Lyrically, it’s mostly just a reflection of something we’re thinking or going through, with some artistic flair or bluesy homage added in.”

VMS:

“I love your song “The Girl.” What is the inspiration or story behind this song?”

The Sins:

“That one started with a simple guitar riff Danny came up with. I built the melody and lyrics around it, and from there, it all just clicked. It was a defining moment for us the first time we really felt our creative chemistry lock in.”

VMS:

“Which local artists would you like to work with and why?”

The Sins:

• Max – Radical West, Los Platanos. Both killer bands with great energy.

• Danny – The Nocturnal Affair. Been friends with the singer for a while and have worked together before.

• Micah – The Grateful Dead & Elvis. They play in Vegas now at the Sphere!

• Misha – Céline Dion. Just putting it out there I’d love to write a couple of songs for her.

“The best collaborations happen when creative energies just mesh. You never really know what’s going to come out of it until you’re in the room together.”

VMS:

“What’s the overall theme or message of your music?”

The Sins:

“We’re time travelers in a way. We’re not here to mimic the past, but to carry it forward, to reshape it and make it our own. Our music is all about passion, rebellion, and soul. We want to pull people into that world with us.”

VMS:

“Do you have a favorite song to perform live?”

The Sins:

“Right now, “The Girl” and “Lovesick Lonesome Blues” are at the top of the list. There’s just something about them they feel alive when we play them. It’s really cool to see how a song evolves each time you play it, and we’re always trying to innovate on both the old and the new.”

VMS:

“What does the future hold for The Sins?”

The Sins:

“We’re building toward our first full-length album, releasing one song at a time. Every track is getting its own visual story, two music videos that bring the songs to life. We also have this tradition of having a really big Halloween show each year, so look out for that!”

VMS:

“What are the personal pros and cons of being a band in Las Vegas? What do you think the scene could improve on, and what are your hopes for the future of the Vegas music scene?”

The Sins:

“Vegas has a wild mix of sounds. Traditional Rock ‘n’ Roll/Blues isn’t always the easiest fit in a scene that leans heavy toward metal, hardcore, and lounge acts, but that just makes it more interesting. We’ve played some great spots so far, and every show pushes us to keep carving out space for something different. The scene is always evolving, and we’re hoping to see more opportunities open up for bands like us ones that don’t fit into just one box.”

VMS:

“What do you want your audience to feel and experience at one of your live shows?”

The Sins:

“Ultimately we just want people to be able to lose themselves in the moment our idea is that going to a Sins show is a nice reprieve from life’s mundanity. We want people to forget about everything else for a little while to move, to feel something real. That’s what it’s all about.”

VMS Thoughts:

What I love about The Sins is that they have an amazing throwback sound but with a great modern twist.
I have always loved the 1960’s / 70’s era in music and The Sins definitely give me that vibe, all while staying true to who they are as musicians. With lyrics about love, rebellion, and self-reflection, they bring an amazing raw energy to their music, and as musicians they are an incredibly energetic and a solid band that all have a wonderful chemistry together, each complimenting their sound, and creating something truly unique to the Vegas Music Scene.

But the music is only half of the experience of The Sins, I encourage you to go see them live at their show coming up on 6/12 at The Swan Dive to really see that explosive energy they have in their live shows, you truly do not want to miss the magnetic musical journey that they will take you on, and will have you craving more. Their passion is incredibly strong for what they do, and I know will put on kick ass show that will rock your fucking face off. Definitely save the date for this sick lineup on 6/12!

I’m so excited to see where the future will take The Sins as a band, I think they are already coming out the gate swinging, and I know their inevitable evolution as artists will be something that truly should not be missed. It’s going to be one hell of a ride.
