VMS:

When did you start writing and performing your music.
What’s your backstory and current lineup.

Demon Sloth:

Chris and Brock started writing together a few years ago as an extension to the guitar lessons Brock was taking from Chris. Brock would write a riff and Chris would help him develop a song around the riff. Will “The Dr.” Daines is on bass. He is Brock’s first guitar teacher and the music director at Thurman White Academy of the Performing arts.

He has an actual doctorate of music education and is a master Jazz trumpet player. Who would have known that he yearned to play bass in a metal band? Chas is filling in on the drums. He has been friends with Chris for around 20 years and they have played in multiple other bands together. His chops are unmatched. We are lucky to have him on board both in the studio and on the stage.

VMS:

What inspired the Band name “Demon Sloth”.

Demon Sloth:

Brock loves sloths, and we started out writing about horror.. The name just seemed to stick.

VMS:

What’s your writing process and inspiration for your lyrics.

Demon Sloth:

Our lyric process has traditionally been inspired by a lot of movies, TV shows, and cartoons. We tried to keep it light hearted and fun. We have recently tackled a few songs with some more substance and seriousness. Can’t wait to show you the future of Demon Sloth.

VMS:

I love your songs “Bloody Puddles”, “First Blood” and “The Chase”. What is the inspiration or story behind these songs.

Demon Sloth:

The chase is a classic “Boy chasing girl” song written through the eyes of a ravenous Coyote. Bloody Puddles is about a famous cartoon pig that just loves herself some bacon. First Blood is about a soldier that comes back from war and has a hard time adapting to normal life.

VMS:

What artist or bands inspire you and your sound.

Demon Sloth:

Brock gets much of his influence from his guitar hero, Dimebag Darrell of Pantera. We all enjoy System of a Down, Slipknot, I Prevail, and Spiritbox. Both Chris and Brock also find guitar influence from Synyster Gates of Avenged Sevenfold, and Alexi Laiho of Children of Bodom.

VMS:

Which local artist would you like to work with and why.

Demon Sloth:

We have shared the stage with some killer local acts but would love to open for Five Finger Death Punch or Falling in Reverse in the future. Both bands have a dynamic energy that the fans can’t get enough of.

VMS:

What’s your overall theme or message of your music.

Demon Sloth:

We use music as an escape from the harsh reality of the world. At the end of the day music is something everyone can agree on and have fun with. We all love being able to play music for others.

VMS:

Do you have a favorite song that you like to perform.

Demon Sloth:

Chris seems to enjoy singing “First Blood” but the crowd seems to love “Bloody Puddles” – This has been the song most likely to open up the pit.

VMS:

Do you have any crazy or interesting stories from working in the music scene.

Demon Sloth:

Once the Dr’s sheet music blew off the stand at a concert. To get the real low down though you would have to DM Chris directly @thechrisiorio

VMS:

What does the future hold for Demon Sloth.

Demon Sloth:

New music, a few live shows, music videos, and a huge social media push. We are excited for what the future holds.

VMS:

What do you want your audience to feel and experience at one of your live shows.

Demon Sloth:

We want everyone at our shows to come together and have a great time. Music exists to bring people together. Everyone is always welcome at a Demon Sloth show.

VMS:

I know you have an upcoming show on November 22nd at The Usual Place. What is the lineup and what can we expect that night from Demon Sloth.

Demon Sloth:

We will be sharing the stage with Requiemcore, Haddonfield, Into Fruition and Manic Divide. Expect Demon Sloth to tear the roof off of the Usual Place. Expect a new original song or 2 to be featured.
This is Jay’s birthday show from Haddonfield. We look forward to celebrating with him.

VMS Thoughts:

What I have always loved about Demon Sloth is how unapologetically unique their music, style and overall vibe is of this band. Their music is an interesting combination of cartoon, gore, metal and a little bit of everything in between. I love that they have fun with the world that they have created and I appreciate that their music always keeps you guessing.

I will note, watching their evolution from their first song “Bloody Puddles” to now is incredible. Even with their new song “Gotta Go” they have grown leaps and bounds as a band and it’s absolutely amazing to watch. I appreciate they are not afraid to try to push their sound with each new song and I am excited to see what the future holds for them. They are all incredibly strong musicians and all bring a unique style and sound to the band, that truly separates them from the rest.

I encourage you guys to save the date for their November 22nd show at The Usual Place, so you can see the full magnetic chemistry that they have not only in their music but in their live shows as well. Their passion and drive for what they do cannot be unmatched, and to get the full experience of Demon Sloth you definitely gotta see them live. I know that they will will put on an amazing one of a kind experience that you do not want to miss!

I am legitimately so excited to see the next evolution of Demon Sloth. The ride has already been fun to watch, and I am dying in anticipation of the next amazing chapter in this already Kick Ass band.
