Hello Rockstars! Today’s Artist of the Week is Rock / Metal Band Acting Human!
Here’s their story in their own words! Enjoy!

They also have a show coming up on 4/25 at Rangel Boxing Ring Sponsored by Vegas Underground!
Save The date, this lineup is killer! 🙂

VMS:

“When did you start writing and performing your music.
What’s your backstory and current lineup.”

Acting Human:

“I started writing pretty much as soon as I picked up a guitar. I just started high school and they offered a guitar class, so I took it. I was also in marching band, so I got a lot of practice performing in front of people. It wasn’t until some of my marching band buddies and I played the high school talent show that I knew I wanted to play professionally in a band forever. I’ve played with plenty of other bands since, but this is the first time I’ve ever played any of my own music in front of people.

The back story for the band starts with Erick (myself) and Zakk playing in multiple bands together then later finding Mike to play in a band called Unidentified Persons. We later split from that group and have had plenty of bad luck finding a drummer and singer. Eventually we just found our own voices and decided to split the responsibility of lead singer between us all. Soon after we found Christian who is new in town but is incredibly experienced and talented.”

VMS:

“What artist or bands inspire you and your sound.”

Acting Human:

“For Me (Erick): System of a Down, Slayer, Pantera, Queen, and Earth Wind and Fire”

VMS:

“What’s your writing process and inspiration for your lyrics.”

Acting Human:

“It’s sort of like in that movie “Walk Hard” where he sort of just hears a phrase that he likes and writes a whole song about it. I have a whole bank of words and phrases that I like and I sort of just start writing about one that I feel in the moment.”

VMS:

“I love your song “Anomaly“. What is the inspiration or story behind this song.”

Acting Human:

“I was watching an interview with a guy talking about his methods for debunking psychics. He said their tricks were all pretty much the same and debunk-able, though there were a few ‘anomalies.’ As a kid I thought to myself “Wait, does that mean there were some psychics that were real?” Obviously not, but that got me thinking of how an interview with a real psychic might go. Even if a psychic could pass all of the tests the scientists still wouldn’t believe that they are real. So that’s what it’s about. The carnival theme was to sort of help paint a picture.”

Listen to “Anomaly” on Spotify:

VMS:

“Which local artist would you like to work with and why.”

Acting Human:

At Odds is cool.”

VMS:

“What’s your overall theme or message of your music.”

Acting Human:

“Acting Human is important, but authenticity is essential.”

VMS:

“Do you have a favorite song that you like to perform.”

Acting Human:

“Dig!”

VMS:

“What does the future hold for Acting Human.”

Acting Human:

“We’re just going to keep making music. Writing songs, playing shows, and some day we’ll be sharing the stage with some of our favorite rock stars.”

VMS:

“What do you want your audience to feel and experience at one of your live shows.”

Acting Human:

“Joy. We want everyone to have a good time. Also some confusion. Like “what the hell is that?” Hopefully that creates more joy.”

VMS Thoughts:

What I love about Acting Human is you cannot pigeonhole them into one genre and their song “Anomaly” is a huge example of that. It’s a sick tour de force journey of starting out with a dirty rock / metal hybrid and then swiftly shifts gears into a more fast paced punk vibes, then diving head first back into metal and somehow they manage to do all of that in a song that’s only three minutes and twenty six seconds lol.

I absolutely love that they are not afraid to play, using that incredibly skilled musicianship they have, morphing into any style they please, I just wish I had a whole ass album of this sound! I know their song is just a taste of the crazy magnetism they have, so I encourage you guys to go see them live and in person to get the whole experience! And Luckily you will have that chance on 4/25 at Rangel Boxing Ring, it’s an incredibly sick lineup that you definitely don’t want to miss! Vegas Underground always puts on a wonderful show and I know this one will not disappoint!

I’m very excited to see where the future will take this band, As long as they always stay true to their very unique voice and sound I know that they will definitely go far. I’m just grateful they invited the audience along for this wild ride.
