“Get Out,” a song by Maybe Katie, weaves a dreamlike stream-of-consciousness narrative with a hint of whimsy.

The song opens with a voicemail from their dad, which is a sweet personal touch, before diving into a dreamy melody that feels like a watercolor vignette.

Based in Las Vegas, the 22-year-old singer-songwriter’s sound is reminiscent of indie icons like BoyGenius and Clairo.

The artist’s latest track is intensely vulnerable and poetic. Their soft, haunting, and whispery voice pairs seamlessly with the charming guitar strings, creating a hazy harmony.

Themes in the heartfelt lyrics delicately convey varying stages of grief, difficult familial ties, and relentless yearning, such as “I’m not where I want to be/ I miss my mom/ even though we disagree.”

This musical gem creates a soothing soundscape, but the impassioned verses cut deep enough to sting just a little. Confessional lines like “I’m making things hard for myself/ I’m really freaking out/ I think I need some help/ I gotta get out” are fearlessly sincere.

“Get Out” embraces the resonant notion that we’re all longing to escape from something or someone once in a while, even from ourselves.
