VMS:
“When did you start writing and performing your music. What’s your backstory and current lineup.”
Las Nalgonas:
“So our first official show was last August, Las Nalgonas was actually just supposed to be for one show! Our friend Antonio was throwing an event at Red Dwarf and they needed another band so I said I’ll play bass with you guys (Jorge & Antonio from the Hideaway) if we can be called Las Nalgonas. I’ve always had that as my imaginary band name even before I played anything. But right after that show we got asked to play at another venue and we just kept it up! The lineup has changed a few times, that’s why we call it Las Nalgonas & friends. We have so many talented friends around us!
Our current lineup is:
Ash on lead vocals.
Cakes on drums.
Rex on rhythm guitar.
Jorge on lead guitar.
and me (Cherry Jayne) on bass/sometimes vocals.
I haven’t been a musician for long but I wrote my first song last November, it’s called “Skate Date” and it’s about my sweet Nalgon, Jorge. I’m new to writing songs and just music theory in general so it’s been a lot of fun! When I write songs I want them to be silly, catchy and sometimes a little vulgar. Jorge helps me a lot with arranging what I mess around with on bass and my lyrics. Such a gem.”
VMS:
“What artist or bands inspire you and your sound.”
Las Nalgonas:
“For sure Bikini Kill, the Cramps and the 5678s! We like to do a lot of riot grrrl sass. Our sets are mostly covers but the original songs we have I would say are inspired by Bratmobile and 5678s surfiness.”
VMS:
“Which local artist(s) would you like to work with and why.”
Las Nalgonas:
“We love playing with The Hideaway, not just because of the crossover member, but they have been supportive of us since day one. They also are bad ass musicians! Our other faves are The Implosions! If you haven’t listened to them or seen them live you NEED to! They are so fun, they’ve also been so supportive of us too! Their stage presence is like nobody else I’ve seen!”
VMS:
“Do you have a favorite song(s) that you like to perform.”
Las Nalgonas:
“We have always had “GooGoo Muck” in our set list and have a lot of fun playing it! “Rawhide” is a surfy song that gets everyone dancing, so we love playing that one too! One of our newest songs is a Bikini Kill cover of “Sugar” and it’s just NAAASSSTY. I have a hard time keeping a straight face when we play it, such a fun one!”

VMS:
“Do you have any crazy or interesting stories from working in the music scene.”
Las Nalgonas:
“So one crazy event that happened for us and we are still geeking out about is the time we played a set at punk rock museum for a night Allison Wolfe and Alice Bag were hosting, and Allison asked us to play a second set because we went on too early! We didn’t know we were supposed to go on later than the time on the flyer lol and by the time she got there we were already done. Of course we said yes!! And the second set was even better. Seeing Allison Wolfe and Alice bag dancing in the crowd was just incredible!”
VMS:
“What does the future hold for Las Nalgonas.”
Las Nalgonas:
“So we have our first out of state show coming in October in north Hollywood!! This is a big deal for us! After that we’re gonna slow things down and start recording our originals and releasing singles. We want to be on Apple Music, Spotify, insta and all that so people can hear us.”
VMS:
“What do you want your audience to feel and experience at one of your live shows.
Las Nalgonas:
“First of all we want them to have fun. We do this for fun, we want to have a good time and if the crowd is too then even better!”
“I personally want them to feel everything and nothing at the same time if that makes sense. I feel like that’s the purpose of going to shows. The music moves you based on your experiences, feelings, hardships, etc. and when you dance and feel the music, it’s kind of a release of all of those emotions. When you’re so moved by the music, you’re not thinking about all the outside noise, you’re in the moment. It’s just a feeling, I don’t know how to explain it!”

VMS:
“I know you are all incredibly active in the Vegas music scene, is there anything in particular you would change, or growth you would like to see. Where do you hope the future goes for this city and its local artists.”
Las Nalgonas:
“Seeing how the majority of us are fairly new to music, I would love the community to keep that encouraging spirit up! We are very fortunate to have been welcomed with open arms to the venues in Vegas. It’s always hard going into male dominated spaces, especially since we are still learning and growing as musicians. We want the community to keep an open mind to not well known bands, bands without a label, the ones that are just starting out! You won’t know what you might be missing out on.”
VMS:
I know (Cherry Jayne) that you’re a jack of all Trades and also did the amazing artwork and logo for Vegas Music Scene (Thank you Again!! LoL) was being a fine artist your first love, or was music. And how have you been able to incorporate both passions so beautifully into your world, that’s not an easy task to do, especially in a competitive place like Vegas.”
Las Nalgonas (Cherry Jayne):
“Thank you so much! Art has always been my first passion, but music definitely has inspired my artwork like nothing else. The last few years has opened so many doors for me to do flyers and even band logos for local and out of state bands. My latest favorite one that I’ve done is for a Native Rockabilly band from Tucson called The Reztones. I did the artwork for their single “Radioactive Love”, and I was lucky enough to hear the song first, and it is genuinely one of my favorite songs even still. It just immediately gave me a mental image of what I wanted to draw for them. I love when that happens.
The musicians I have done artwork for have all been so generous with me, sharing it on their own social media and recommending me to other bands. I’m so grateful. Now I get to do artwork for my own songs and I am beyond stoked about it!”
VMS Thoughts:
What I’ve always loved about Las Nalgonas is the fact that not only are they excellent musicians who put on one helluva live show, as humans they are some of the sweetest and most supportive people out there! The music scene here in Vegas, for the most part, has been a pretty positive experience personally for me, and I am proud to say that not only are they excellent at what they do, they are definitely the sweetest group of bad ass mother fuckers you will meet!
Playing gnarly renditions of classic songs from the Surfer / Rockabilly / 70’s and 80’s Punk genre’s and making them their own, up against their commanding drums, sick guitar riffs, and her insane vocals that will take you on an amazing ride just on their own, the talent in this band is crazy good and I strongly encourage you to go see them live! They will instantly get you on the dance floor with their infectious music and electric live show! I’m excited for new music from them down the road, I truly think they have the passion, drive and artistry to be in the music scene for the long haul! I am proud to be on this journey with Las Nalgonas and I cannot wait to see the evolution of this amazing band.
