Today I’m going to be telling you about an amazing up and coming Alternative Rock singer-songwriter Rhaina Yasmin

Here’s her story in her own words.

Her beginnings: “Growing up in the suburbs of upstate New York, I often spent my time daydreaming of performing. I began taking voice, guitar, and piano lessons at a young age. However, It wasn’t until I moved to Las Vegas, that I really started to perform in a band. I gradually became more confident playing local venues and writing my own music. Since then i’ve continued to hone into my own voice and individuality as an artist.”

Why she moved from New York to Las Vegas:  “I moved from New York to Las Vegas when I was 15 after some major life events. As my mom puts it, “we needed to come to the desert to heal”.”

Her inspirations: “I’ve always been inspired by an eclectic combination of artists and genres. The Cranberries, Radiohead, Aretha Franklin, John Prine, Elliott Smith, Great Grandpa, and Laura Stevenson all come to mind.”

Her writing process: “My writing process is usually a stream of consciousness. I pick up my guitar and spit out words and phrases until I start to get a sense of imagery and emotion.”

I absolutely love her songs “Garden Party” and “Stars”.

Here’s the story behind those songs: “Garden Party” and “Stars” really embody two vastly different parts of my life. “Garden Party” was written at 17 years old, a feeling that has always stuck with me, even now, is a sense of longing.  “Stars” is a conversational and reminiscent homage to my childhood. Feeling lost in the past but still doing everything I possibly can to move forward. I was initially inspired by a beach trip I took with my family in 2007.”

What she wants her audience to experience with her music: “I want my audience to feel less alone. Nostalgia, anxiety, and the growing pains of getting older are universal feelings most of us can relate to.”

What local artist’s she would like to collaborate with: “I would love to collaborate with my best friend Maybe Katie, they’re an incredibly talented songwriter and it’s something we’ve talked about for years.”

The overall theme of her music: “My music is nostalgia.”

What does the future hold for Rhaina Yasmin: “The future is uncertain, but for now, i’m continuing to create music that feels cathartic and healing. As well as, touring and playing locally! My new single ‘Keepsake’ releases Friday, October 13th.”

What I love about Rhaina Yasmin is between her exquisitely beautiful lyrics and her piercing powerhouse vocals that just cut you to your core, it’s all such a beautiful window into the heart and soul of Rhaina. She feels like an old soul, with insight well beyond her years and a earnest vulnerability that seems hard to find in this social media age. What you see is what you get with her and I appreciate that. Im so incredibly excited to see what the future holds for Rhaina Yasmin and her beautifully exquisite music and her heart. And this is why she’s my artist of the Week!
